How to face tough times in life

Have you ever wondered how to face the tough times of life in the hope of unraveling a mystery that only a privileged few know?

Undoubtedly, each of us has faced moments of deep crisis. And many of those moments are what have marked and defined the rest of our lives.

As difficult as it is to accept, divorces, illnesses, accidents, deaths, and the bad things that happen to good people will always be part of life.

What has always surprised me is how some people rise from their ashes more potent than before, while others become victims of circumstances.

I have witnessed how the human spirit can soar over misfortune or adversity. So I do not doubt that we are much more resilient than ever imagined.

The six tips about how to face tough times that you will read below are the ones that have had the most significant impact on my life, and I hope they are helpful to you.

How to face tough times

1.) Take responsibility

Don’t be tempted to blame others for what happens to you. Even if you did nothing to cause the problematic situation you are experiencing, you are responsible for how you deal with the problem.

Stay calm, and decide to take control as if the entire Universe is watching you.

Make yours the following thought: "Life may bring me down again and again, but I will never stop getting up."

According to the motivational public speaker and author of several Personal Development books, Brian Tracy, when life presents you with adversity, there are certain things you can do to stay in control.

First, resolve to stay calm no matter how difficult the situation is. A cool head can articulate strategies and solutions.

Get the facts. Sometimes we think we have problems that don’t exist, or the issues are less significant than we thought. Therefore, you must be clear about the facts or situations you face.

Please write it down. What exactly is the problem I am concerned about?

If you can use the brain to write the problem, you can find solutions in most cases. What can I do now to minimize the damage or take advantage of the situation?

2.) Focus on valuable and positive activities

Keep yourself so busy with practical activities that you don’t have time to think about the situation. This strategy has worked for many people in their darkest moments.

A dear friend unexpectedly lost her husband when he suffered a heart attack. She tells me that what kept her on her feet was working hard to pay off debts and keep her family together.

Of course, she also found the time to mourn her husband and express her emotions. However, she did not allow the mourning period to extend too long or become her excuse for not getting out of bed.

And so, I have been able to know other cases of people who were very busy in times of crisis. They learned how to face tough times by taking refuge in work and other valuable activities, so they had no time left to worry and wallow in self-pity.

3.) Have an action plan

What actions will you take immediately to get through this hard time? Award-winning best-selling author Mariela Dabbah says there are no magic recipes for overcoming adversity, but nothing helps more than having a good action plan.

Developing a detailed action plan and starting to stick to it will make you feel in control when you encounter unexpected situations.

Remember that successful people are those who are action-oriented. The big question to ask yourself is: what is the following action I will take?

4.) Take control of your mind

Strengthen yourself mentally, and you can face any hardship or adversity.

Uncertainty and fear can undermine our mental health if we don’t take control of our thoughts.

If you believe you will never be able to overcome or turn the difficult situation you are going through, you will most likely fall into a downward spiral.

Now, what are you feeding your mind daily? Are you glued to the news or social networks pending each disaster in the country, the economic recession, and social injustices?

Or do you prefer to nurture your mind with books, audio, or videos that motivate, inspire, or help you develop new skills that build your life?

The American entrepreneur and motivational speaker Jim Rohn said: “Every day you have to stay on guard at the door of your mind.” I could not agree more.

5.) Fosters team spirit and excellent communication

Successful organizations foster team spirit in their workers, so we must do with our closest families and relationships.

It is crucial to seek family unity and the support of good friends since this is decisive for overcoming moments of crisis in less time.

If you think carefully, team spirit has always been key to survival.

Excellent communication with others is also essential to make you feel better emotionally and find related solutions that probably would not have occurred to you alone.

6.) Gratitude

If you know how to see the beauty and be grateful for the simple things in challenging moments, your eyes will not believe the blessings that will come to your life.

Gratitude is much more than a positive feeling; it is the key that opens the doors of abundance and connects you with your Higher Self.

I am a living testament to the power of Gratitude to help us out of those dark periods when we really can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

A few years ago, I went through a complicated stage when everything seemed to go wrong in my life. Amid so much discouragement, I began to focus on simple things like a beautiful landscape or a delicious meal.

As I focused on those things, I was very excited about thanking God for providing me with those little blessings. I also liked to visualize myself living better times and enjoying those future imaginary blessings.

Little by little, my life began to change positively, and fantastic things happened to me much better than what I had visualized in my sad moments.

Coincidence? I do not think so.

I am a firm believer in the immense power of gratitude, combined with a positive attitude when facing tough times in life.

Dare to be grateful in your worst moments. Then you will have reasons to erase the tears of sadness and begin to see life from a new perspective of joy and hope.
